Major Project of the National Social Science Foundation (16ZDA224) Held a Series of Expert Lectures on "Data Science and Knowledge Innovation Services"



On April 26, 2019, invited by Prof. Yuefen Wang, who is the chief expert of the major project team of the National Social Science Foundation, three experts from Renmin University of China, Fudan University and Central Florida University of the United States made a series of lectures on Data Science and Knowledge Innovation Services about practice application. The lectures are held in 106 multi-functional classroom in the School of Economics and Management. The members of the research team, the staff of library in Nanjing University of Science and Technology, teachers and students of the Information Management Department attended the lecture. The lecture was hosted by Professor Li Li, the director of the Department of Information Management of the School of Economics and Management.

 

Professor Xiaoying Zhou, director of the Library and Information Management Department of the School of Information Resources Management, Renmin University of China, gave a report with the topic “Government Health Information Governance in Healthy China Construction. From the perspective of data information organization, Professor Zhou revolved around government health information governance, analyzed the social impact of the fragmentation of health information and the problems of effective integration and governance, and combined the goal of health information literacy promotion with the way of health information sharing and utilization. It was stated that the government can carry out the management of health information from four aspects: management, help, introduction and construction. Finally, she analyzed the methods of implementing health information management through examples of health science practice in Beijing hospital.

Associate Professor Shenqin Yin, director of the Scientific Data Center of the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences of Fudan University, gave a report with the topic Research and Practice of Scientific Data Management in Universities. She first outlined the latest research progress in data management and services in humanities and social sciences at home and abroad, and secondly shared the exploration and practice of Fudan University in the construction and sharing of scientific data. She focused on the related functions of the social science data platform of Fudan University. The platform can integrate, develop, share and utilize various data resources in the fields of humanities and social sciences to realize the transformation of corresponding theoretical innovations and research paradigms, and help to adapt to the adaptation of big data. The humanities and social sciences composite research talents of the times demand promote the transformation and application of humanities and social science research results, and provide intelligent and accurate scientific basis for the research mode of humanities and social sciences.

The third expert is Professor Wei Zhang from the Chinese Association of Chinese Librarians (CALA) and currently Director of the Resource Acquisition and Collection Services Department of the University of Central Florida (UCF). Her report topic is “Information service model and capacity improvement of librarians. In her report, she introduced the librarian model of the University of Central Florida (UCF) and the basic responsibilities of librarians, and described some successful service practices. In the end, under the circumstance of the lack of money, lack of people and lack of time in the library, librarians must have communication skills, learning ability, data analysis ability, professional ability, learn to market themselves, marketing collections, and have team spirit. A good librarian should be able to successfully embed in the research life cycle to help advance the research process, enhance the image of the school, and improve library visibility.

The three experts elaborated on the problems faced by the library and information fields and their strategies in the context of data science and knowledge innovation services from different aspects, which made the audience very productive. In the communication session, the teachers and students asked questions, and the experts answered them patiently. The whole lecture was rich in information and the atmosphere was warm, which broadened the audience's knowledge horizon, provided reference for the in-depth study of major projects  of national social science foundation, and expanded practical ideas for librarians to carry out knowledge innovation services.
